Emergency Lighting

If main electrical power fails during a fire or other incident it’s vital that people have adequate lighting to exit a building safely.

London Fire & Security ensures duty of care with lighting designs and signage for emergency way finding. We work to BS 5266-1: 2011 guidelines and modify each installation to the specific configuration and occupancy levels of the site.

Emergency lighting covers:

Escape route illumination
Demarcation of open/anti-panic areas
High-risk task areas.

We focus on corridor intersections, changes of level, final exits and external escape routes.

Fire alarm call-points and fire-fighting equipment must have high-intensity backup lighting. Our designs include emergency luminaires that can be self-contained (battery) devices or centrally (but not mains) powered units.

We recognise that while staff will be drilled for evacuations, visitors may not even know the building layout and must be given maximum visual information.
Emergency lighting systems fail without adequate signage.

Our lighting system designs feature:

Luminaires as directional pictograms
Photo luminescent signs showing exit routes
Incandescent lamps indicating emergency pathways
Tactile signage for use in smoke
Braille text

London Fire & Security emergency lighting meets BAFE standards and will always use a secondary uninterruptible power supply (UPS)

It can be activated by:

Manual switch from fire marshal
Motion sensors
Ambient light settings

We have extensive knoweledge and experience of the following sectors:
Hospitals
Schools
Airports
Councils
Retail
Government
